Magenta Plains is an art gallery that occupies a unique through-block commercial space on the Lower East Side. The main gallery space opens on to Allen Street and is continuous through the building with a special projects exhibition space accessible from Orchard Street. The gut renovation of the interior created a light filled exhibition space with a new polished concrete floor. A new, custom fabricated steel and mesh staircase creates acces to a cellar level exhibition space where existing wood beams were exposed and lighting was integrating between the joists. The existing exposed masonry was lime-washed for a translucent white finish.
