When Greenlight Bookstore opened their second location on Flatbush Avenue in Lefferts Gardens, they wanted to make sure the retained the recognizable spirit and atmosphere of the original store even though the new space was in a very different site. This shop occupies the ground floor and cellar level spaces of a new construction building on Flatbush Avenue in Lefferts Gardens. Where the original location has a long glass storefront that flooded the store with natural light, this location has a narrow front facade. In order to make the space feel bright and airy, our design creates lighting coves throughout the space that mimic the feeling of natural sunlight. The column tops are gently flared in reference to the curves of the millwork in the first store and custom cherry woodwork echoes the material palette from the original Fort Greene location.
